Medium-sized ELCA Lutheran congregation seeks part-time musician proficient at pipe organ, piano and keyboard beginning January 1, 2012. Flexible work schedule, 8-12 hours weekly, including but not limited to Sunday worship, mid-week rehearsals, mid-week Lenten services and seasonal services.

Duties and responsibilities include:

·         Provide organ, piano and keyboard music for worship.Collaborate with the Pastor, staff and Worship and Music Committee to plan worship and select liturgical settings, hymns and service music.

·         Accompany vocal and instrumental soloists, ensembles and choir at mid-week evening rehearsals, Sunday morning worship and special services

·         Provide organ/piano/keyboard music for weddings, funerals and other special events on a fee-for-service basis. 

·         Arrange for substitute organists for vacation and sick time in cooperation with the Pastor and Worship and Music Committee.

·         Monitor condition of all keyboard instruments and advise should repairs or routine maintenance be needed.

·         Attend staff meetings and Worship and Music Committee meetings as requested.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities desired include:

·         High degree of proficiency in pipe organ, piano and keyboard and a working knowledge of other instruments.  Strong sight reading skills a plus.

·         Knowledge and appreciation of Lutheran liturgy and worship practices and ability to select appropriate seasonal music

·         Experience and proficiency with a variety of worship music traditions, including classical, contemporary, gospel, jazz, folk, cross-cultural

·         Experience accompanying choirs, vocalists and instrumentalists, playing in an ensemble and supporting congregational singing

·         Competency in basic music theory, pitch and rhythm. Ability to transpose, harmonize and modulate a plus.

·         Good communication skills and ability to work effectively with volunteers

·         Positive attitude and flexibility in adapting to time constraints and unforeseen circumstances

Salary and benefits negotiable, evaluated annually
